Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants allegedly decamped with gold ornaments and a huge amount of cash during a wedding ceremony at a hotel in Bhubaneswar after posing as guests.
As per information, the incident took place at the banquet hall of a hotel in Maitri Vihar area where the wedding ceremony of a doctor couple was being held on Sunday evening. While incident was captured on CCTV, the accused are yet to be apprehended.
Following a complaint lodged by the family, police have launched an investigation. It was claimed that cash to the tune of Rs 2.5 lakh along with gold and diamond jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh have gone missing.
When the marriage procession of the groom arrived at the venue, two miscreants posing as guests from the groom’s side entered the hotel after parking their vehicle outside.
As a large number of guests attended the event, one of the miscreants went for photoshoot with the bride while the other stayed below the dais and kept a watch. When the crowd got bigger, the accused on the dais with the bride discretely stole the gift bag in which all the cash and valuables had been kept. The two then fled the scene.
The incident came to light when the bride’s family found that the bag was missing and contacted the police. The entire incident of the two accused entering and leaving the venue has been captured on CCTV and efforts are on to track the duo, sources said.
