Sambalpur: Police are on the hunt for miscreants who set fire to the branch office of the Board of Secondary Education near Jail Chhak here on Wednesday afternoon.
Informing the media soon after the incident, BSE deputy secretary Suryamani Majhi said 8-9 unidentified persons entered into the office at about 2 pm and asked the staff why the office has been kept open. Later they asked the staff to come out of the office and set fire to some files and other equipment in an office room. The fire later spread to other office rooms and destroyed several important files and office assets. Before leaving the office, the miscreants set fire to two bikes of the staff parked inside the office premises.
Following information, a fire brigade team rushed to the office and brought the fire under control.
Majhi also said that the office was kept open due to the form fill up by the students for the High School Certificate (HSC) supplementary examinations.
Soon after the incident, Collector Samarth Burma and SP Sanjeev Arora rushed to the BSE office.
Talking to the mediapersons, the SP said that the police will register a case on the basis of the complaint of the BSE deputy secretary.
He said police will investigate into the circumstances in which the incident took place and the persons behind the incident.
Meanwhile, apprehending law and order situation, additional police force has been deployed at the BSE office.
