Cuttack: Announcement of annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination results will be delayed further because of a mismatch in marks in the answer sheets, Board of Secondary Education (BSE) sources said.
The results were earlier scheduled to be declared in the first week of May and then postponed to the second week as power and telecommunication services snapped after cyclone Fani struck Odisha on May 3.
The annual HSC, Madhyama and Odisha State Open School (OSOS) examinations were held between February 24 and March 9, while the online and offline evaluation of the answer sheets was simultaneously held from March 25 to April 5.
“Though the marks were sent online from the evaluation centres to the BSE office, it was later found that there was a gross mismatch in long-type answer sheets (which were evaluated offline) and the OMR (optical mark recognition) sheets evaluated online. Some students have scored 40-45 out of 50 marks in the long-type questions and 4-5 marks of 50 marks in the OMR type objective questions. These absurd marks have been corrected by a team of senior teachers at the board’s headquarters office,” a senior BSE official said on condition of anonymity.
He said similar anomalies were also found in the Madhyama and OSOS answer sheets and those have been rectified.
He, however, said that disruption in Internet service will most likely delay announcement of the results by another week.
While results of the annual Class X and XII examinations of CBSE and ICSE have been announced, inordinate delay in announcement of HSC results has triggered panic and resentment among students, parents and guardians.
