Puri: The ‘Asthadhatu’ idols of Nrusinghanath temple in Puri were found abandoned under a tree near Rendhagad river bank in Brahmagiri of Puri district on Friday morning.
According to sources, two children and two women who were on a morning walk noticed a bag lying under the tree and found idols of Abhaya Nrusingha, Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha and Singhasana of Nrusingha stuffed in it. They immediately informed the servitors about the same. Following which the idols were kept inside the temple premises.
A large number of people gathered near the temple after being informed about the recovery of the missing idols.
Locals suspect that the person/persons who had stolen the idols might have kept the idols under the tree.
The idols and some gold ornaments were missing from the temple since the night of January 8. A police complaint was also lodged by in this connection by the temple authorities. Basing on which two persons were detained and interrogated by the police at that time.
