Mumbai: Body of a 20-year-old law student, who went missing on January 31, was found in a 400-feet-deep gorge at Tiger Point in Lonavala.
Shreya Narendra Pati, who was pursuing her law studies at BITS Law School in Kalyan, informed her family that she was heading to Lonavala for a trek to Duke’s Nose and would return home by 5 pm. Her phone soon went out of coverage, raising concerns. Later that evening, around 7.30 pm, a local snack vendor near Tiger Point contacted her father after finding an abandoned bag containing her college ID card.
Her family started searching for her late at night and reported her missing the following morning. The Shivdurg Rescue Team was soon called in to assist. Led by Vaishnavi Bhangre and Mahesh Masane, the team conducted a thorough search using ropes, search dogs, and drones. At around 4.45 pm, a drone located Shreya’s body roughly 390 feet down the gorge. The rescuers brought her body up by 9.30 pm, the Pune Mirror reported.
It is being suspected that Shreya took the extreme step due to domestic tension. “The deceased reached Tiger’s Point around 11 am Later, she went to Duke’s Nose. Around 1.30 pm, she returned to Tiger’s Point in a rickshaw, where she allegedly committed suicide,” PTI reported, quoting senior police inspector of Lonavala rural police Dinesh Tayde.
Police have identified the rickshaw driver and further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the death.
Some reports indicate that Shreya was a native of Odisha.
