Cuttack: A trader was seriously injured in a crash with a Mo Bus at Khannagar in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Friday morning.
According to sources, the accident took place around 6.30 am when the injured, Bikas Swain, was riding a moped to Bhubaneswar, carrying vegetables. He sustained injuries on his leg and head. He was rescued by passersby, who then rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The CRUT, which manages the Mo Bus service in the capital region, has blamed the trader for the accident. “At approximately 6.23 am, the Mo Bus was entering Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT) when an over-speeding luna rider, carrying bags of vegetables, collided with the rear side of the bus and fell. After thorough review of the incident, including CCTV footage, it is clear that the Mo Bus was operating well within the designated speed limit of 15 km/h. All the Mo Bus are equipped with speed governors to ensure compliance with the law. The speed limit within cities is strictly 40 km/h and the bus was adhering to this guideline,” it said in a statement.
The bus, involved in the accident, was operating on Route 16 between Sri Sri University and CNBT. “We urge the public to remain cautious while on the road and to follow traffic safety protocols for everyone’s well-being. The incident resulted in a delay for passengers, and we appreciate their understanding. The safety and security of passengers, pedestrians and other road users remain a top priority for CRUT,” it added.
This comes three days after a 12-year-old was crushed under the wheels of a Mo Bus at Raghunathpur under Nandankanan police limits in Bhubaneswar. The CRUT had then admitted that the driver was at fault and announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for the family of the deceased.
