Bhubaneswar: A woman was killed and her husband critically injured after a Mo Bus hit their vehicle near a flyover in Tamando area of Bhubaneswar.
Sources said a Mo Bus plying on Route No. 33 was returning to the Kalinga Nagar depot on Friday night when it hit at least two scooters near a shopping mall. Locals alleged that the bus was speeding recklessly and ran over one of the vehicles while dragging another for several meters.
The bus first knocked down a scooter causing it to lose balance and fall on the road. A woman pillion rider was caught under the wheels and crushed to death. The man riding the two-wheeler was critically and admitted to a nearby hospital.
Eyewitnesses further said that the bus also hit another two-wheeler, causing grievous injuries to some others.
On being informed, a police team rushed to the site and took the Mo Bus driver into custody. An investigation is on to ascertain the identities of the deceased and the injured persons.
Tension prevailed in the area following the incident and locals vandalised the bus. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who demand strict action against reckless drivers.
The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), which manages Mo Bus operations, is yet to make any comment on the fresh mishap.
The mishap comes few days after a young girl was killed while crossing the road near Nandankanan in Bhubaneswar after being hit by a Mo Bus.
