Karachi: A mob attacked the US consulate in Karachi’s Mai Kolachi Road on Sunday, vandalising part of the property. This came after Iran announced the death of its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint strikes by the US and Israel, as reported by Times Now.
In a video from Karachi, protesters are seen setting the guardhouse outside the consulate on fire and removing barricades. Security personnel can be seen using tear gas to bring the situation under control.
In the video, a man can be heard saying: “We have set the consulate on fire, we are taking revenge for killing…”
In India, meanwhile, security has been needed up outside all US missions. All gatherings have been banned close to them.
In Jammu and Kashmir, protest rallies were brought out by Shias, but they were peaceful in nature. Chief minister Omar Abdullah called for peace and urged security forces to maintain restraint and allow the protesters to mourn.
Meanwhile, Israeli defense minister Israel Katz said Khamenei was killed in the “opening blow” of the military operation against Iran.
“The tyrant Khamenei was eliminated in the opening blow of Operation “Roar of the Lion” and with him other senior figures in the Iranian terrorist stronghold,” he posted on X.
Iran launched a fresh wave of strikes against several countries early on Sunday. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had launched a “sixth wave” of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US bases in the region, the semi-official Tasnim news agency said.
Israel said that it had identified missiles launched from Iran and that defensive systems were operational, even as sirens sounded across central and southern parts of the country.
