Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area over westcentral Bay of Bengal became well marked on Wednesday morning.
The system is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by October 2 morning and cross south Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts in the morning hours of October 3, the India Meteorological department (IMD) said in a morning bulletin.
The low pressure had formed at around 5.30 pm on Tuesday under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood.
The weather agency has forecast light to moderate rain/thunderstorm at most/many places with isolated heavy rainfall in Odisha from October 1-3. Isolated very heavy rainfall may also occur in the state on October 2. Thunderstorms and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) is also likely during the next 5 days.
Squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph may along & off Odisha coasts and over North and Central Bay of Bengal during from October 1-4, it added.
IMD FORECAST
The intensity of rainfall is likely to increase over South Odisha from October 1 onward, coinciding with the Durga Puja celebrations, potentially affecting festive outdoor events and travel plans.
On October 1, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur at one or two places in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. Thunderstorm along with lightning andgusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
The weather agency has issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places in the districts of Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Kandhamal on October 2.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh and Cuttack.
There is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur. Thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal districts.
On October 3, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Angul and Dhenkanal.
Though there is no heavy rain warning on October 4, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph vmay continues at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
