Bhubaneswar: The monsoon is expected to reach the Odisha coast on June 15, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said in a mid-day release on Saturday.
The forecast came after the southwest monsoon arrived at the Kerala coast on Saturday. It usually takes about a week for the monsoon to reach the Odisha coast after hitting the Kerala coast. Therefore, it is most likely to hit the state’s coast tentatively by June 15, the release added.
It, however, added that the schedule for the arrival of the monsoon in Odisha depends on favourable weather conditions. If the wind speed is normal, the monsoon will arrive in a week. But if the wind speed is slow, then there will be a delay of about 2-3 days.
Stating that pre-monsoon rain is likely to begin in the south coastal districts from June 13, the release said cloudy weather along the coastal belts will continue till the next two days, after which there will be a gradual rise in the day temperature.
