Bhubaneswar: The onset of the southwest monsoon in Odisha will be delayed by a week, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday.
“Usually, the monsoon reaches Kerala on June 1. Due to a cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, its arrival in Kerala this year is most likely to be delayed to June 5,” Rajendra Kumar Jenamani, Head, Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre, IMD, said.
As per the IMD forecast, the onset of the monsoon over Odisha will be delayed by 3-7 days compared to the normal dates, he said.
Talking about the ongoing heatwave across the country, he said under the influence of the Cyclone Amphan, there has been maximum rise in the day temperature which will prevail for some days. The temperature will also rise despite the rainfall between May 29 and June 2. “But the intensity of the heat will not be the same as at present,” he said.
