Bhubaneswar: The monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly is most likely to commence in July, said Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on Wednesday.

“Efforts are on to start the monsoon session of Parliament and State Assemblies simultaneously in July,” he said after a virtual meeting presided over by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to mark the completion of the two-year term of Parliament.

In view of the pandemic situation, the Assembly session will be conducted with strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines, he added.

The Odisha Legislative Assembly should mandatorily sit for a minimum of 60 days in a calendar year. “Every calendar year the assembly shall have not less than three sessions with a minimum of 60 sitting days,” says Rule 11 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in OLA. In 83 years, the House has met 60-day-a-year only 12 times.

“I also informed him about steps being taken to streamline the proceedings of the State Assembly. Barring starred questions, the remaining business of the House is being conducted without papers,” he added.
