Monsoon To Arrive In Kerala In 48 Hours After Storm Delay; Check The Warnings

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said that conditions are becoming favourable for the onset of monsoon over Kerala in the next 48 hours.

“The conditions are also favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of South Arabian Sea and entire Lakshadweep area and Maldives and Comorin area, more parts Southwest & Central Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeastern states during the same period,” according to the afternoon bulletin.

While meteorologists have predicted a “moderate” monsoon start over Kerala and “poor” advancement beyond the southern peninsula, Cyclone Biparjoy is rapidly raining strengthen and is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by Thursday.

The severe storm had delayed the weather event vital for the economy.

“The Severe Cyclonic Storm “Biparjoy”over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea moved nearly north-northeastwards with a speed of 5 kmph during last 6 hours and lay centered at 8.30 am of June 7 over the same region, about 880 km west-southwest of Goa, 990 km southwest of Mumbai, 1060 km south-southwest of Porbandar and 1360 km south of Karachi. It is very likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm during next 12 hours. It would move nearly northwards during next 24 hours and then north-northwestwards during subsequent 3 days,” the MeT office said.

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert from Thiruvananthapuram to Alappuzha districts.

“The future track remains uncertain so areas from Maharashtra & Gujarat in India to South Pakistan & Oman should monitor,” senior meteorologist Jason Nicholls tweeted.

Rain Warning

Light/moderate fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds is likely over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka; isolated to scattered activity over North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh during next 5 days. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during From June 7-9; Kerala during June 7-10; Tamil Nadu on June 7; Lakshadweep during June 9-11 and Karnataka on June 10-11.

Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Manipur & Mizoram during June 7-9 and Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya on June 10-11.

Fishermen Warning

>> Total suspension of fishing operations over eastcentral and adjoining westcentral & south Arabian Sea till June 12.

>> Westcentral and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea from June 12-14

>> Fishermen are advised not to venture into Central Arabian Sea till June 13, adjoining areas of north Arabian Sea on June 12-13, adjoining areas of south Arabian Sea till June 7.

>> Those out at sea are advised to return to coast.
