Bhubaneswar: As many as 3,261 students will appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advance from the state this year, to be held on May 27.
“As many as 2,733 students completed their registration before the date extension. After the extension of the deadline, the total number of registered students has now increased to 3,261 out of about 5,000 students who have qualified from the state,” said Chandrasekhar Bhamidipati, Chairman, JEE, IIT Bhubaneswar.
Earlier, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, on the request of Odisha government extended the registration date for the entrance examination from May 9 to May 14 keeping the devastation caused by Cyclone Fani in mind. The Ministry had also asked the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar to help the students.
The premier institute had then opened a special help desk at its permanent campus and also ran a special bus service to ferry students from the core part of the city to the campus of the institute in Argul to provide facilities needed for registering for the examination. The institute had also opened special counters for the purpose.
“IIT Bhubaneswar had a discussion with the organising chair of JEE-2019 and immediately created a special help desk and registration counter to facilitate online registration of the aspirants of JEE (Advance) who qualified for it,” said IIT BBS Director, Ratnam Vadra Raja Kumar.
He said that the institute had also sent communication across the state ranging from colleges to coaching centres informing them about the extension of deadline and facilities provided by IIT Bhubanswar through the help desk.
In the meantime, like previous years, the premier educational institutions also decided to organise an open day and live counselling session on June 16 for all the students who have qualified for JEE (Advance) to help them explore the IIT system. They will see the facilities, interact with the faculty, participate in the counselling session and get their doubts cleared.
IIT administrators informed OB that the IIT Bhubaneswar JEE help desk received a number of queries through emails and telephone, which were successfully addressed. A large number of interested students as well as those who did not have internet facility due to disrupted power supply and telecommunication visited the institute and registered for the JEE (Advance) 2019 Examination.
Officials said that the open day to be held in June will be followed by a talk on introduction to programmes of study at IIT BBS followed by a question and answer session addressed by the faculty members. It is designed to help the students in making a correct choice in their career.
