Bhubaneswar: A venomous cobra, measuring around 4-5 feet, caused a stir at Sailashree Vihar residential area in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday morning after it was found trapped inside a rat cage.
The incident was reported from the residence of Som Patel in the housing board colony, where the family had set up the trap to catch rodents that have been a common nuisance in households across the city.
According to sources, the Patel family was startled by unusual sounds coming from the cage early this morning. On closer inspection, they were shocked to find a large cobra coiled inside, struggling to escape. The trap, originally meant for rats, had inadvertently ensnared the venomous reptile.
Local residents quickly gathered at the spot and the news spread across the neighbourhood, sparking both fear and curiosity. Snake Helpline was soon called in to safely remove the cobra from the premises. The venomous reptile was later released in a forest, the sources added.
