Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Motor Vehicle Department on Monday signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with HDFC Bank for e-collection of motor vehicle-related revenues.
All kinds of motor vehicles-related taxes, fees and fines can now be paid digitally in the offices of State Transport Authority, Regional Transport Offices and during checking by enforcement officials at the spot.
According to government sources, this is in tune with the commitment of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to enable delivery of citizen-centric services through Technology, Transparency and Teamwork.
The HDFC Bank will install 162 PoS machines in the offices of State Transport Authority, Regional Transport Offices throughout the state.
A total of 195 mobile e-challan devices will be provided to the enforcement officers. The device has been integrated with SARATHI and VAHAN database to generate the Vehicle Checking Report (VCR) on the spot, the sources further said.
All the enforcement officials like Road Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Traffic Inspectors, Junior MVIs, Traffic Sub Inspectors will be able to generate the VCR on the spot and collect the compounding fees then and there through digital payment.
The citizens can pay the dues at the offices and pay the compounding fees at the spot through credit card/debit card without any additional payment of convenience fee.
The issue of VCR in manual form will be stopped from November 1 and all enforcement officers will generate VCR through the e-challan device only. Through this device, the officer can verify the details of the driver and the vehicle including the history of offences. The repeat offenders may have to pay a higher fine in accordance with the rule, the sources added.
The MoU was signed at the Office of State Transport Authority in Cuttack, between State Transport Authority Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda and HDFC Bank Regional Head, Debashis Senapati.
