Angul: Forest officials are closely monitoring the movement of the three-year-old Royal Bengal tiger inside the enclosure in the core forest area of Satkosia Sanctuary in Odisha’s Angul district. The tiger was brought from the Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday.
The monitoring is being done through CCTV, radio frequency and satellite.
Sources said the tiger is yet to take on its prey, a wild boar which was released into the enclosure on Thursday. The forest staff has decided to kill the boar and feed the tiger if it does not make a kill.
Talking to the media on Friday, Chief Wildlife Warden, Odisha, Sandip Tripathy said this is the first inter-state translocation of a tiger in the world.
Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray informed that the tiger is in good health and its movement has become normal.
Secretary, Forest and Environment, Suresh Mohapatra said the tiger could be under stress as it is inside the enclosure. “We hope that the tiger will kill the boar tonight or tomorrow,” he added.
He further said that the tiger will easily find its prey after it is released in the wild after some days of observation.
Usually, if a tiger is on a full stomach, it kills its prey every second or third day. Since this Bengal tiger was fed sufficiently before it was taken out of the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh, it will kill the boar soon, say wildlife experts.
