Mumbai Crime Branch Conducts Parallel Probe In Govinda’s Accidental Firing Case

Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch is conducting a parallel probe alongside the local police into the accidental firing in which actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda received a bullet injury in his leg on Tuesday morning.

Earlier, a team of Crime Branch led by senior police inspector Daya Nayak met the actor, a report by News18 said.  

Juhu police recorded the statement of Govinda but is reportedly not fully convinced with the sequence of the incident narrated by him although it ruled out any foul play. The police have also recorded the statement of Govinda’s daughter Tina Ahuja. 

In his statement, Govinda said a shot was triggered accidentally when his 20-year-old  Webley revolver fell when he tried to put it safely in the cupboard. he was alone when the accident took place and he was preparing to catch an early morning flight to Kolkata.   

The police have seized the actor’s revolver.

Besides being a popular actor with a career spanning four decades and hundreds of films, Govinda won 2004 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket from Mumbai North constituency. In March 2024, he joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
