Mumbai: A tragic accident struck the Mulund area of Mumbai, Maharashtra on Saturday when a section of an under-construction metro rail pillar collapsed onto a passing auto-rickshaw on LBS Road near the Johnson & Johnson Company. One person was killed and three others sustained serious injuries, reported The Statesman.
According to local authorities, the incident occurred around 12:15–12:20 pm during construction works on the ongoing Mumbai Metro project. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the pillar segment fell onto the auto-rickshaw, trapping those inside. Emergency responders, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, Metro staff, ward officials and ambulance teams, rushed to the scene to clear debris and assist victims.
The deceased has been identified as Ramdhan Yadav. The three injured — Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45), Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52) and Deepa Ruhiya (40) — were taken to hospital for treatment; two are reportedly in stable condition.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said its project team was on the spot coordinating relief efforts with the BMC and disaster management agencies.
In response to the incident, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief, ordered an inquiry into the collapse, and announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased’s next of kin. He also stated that the state government will cover medical costs for the injured and prayed for their speedy recovery.
