Municipal Body Initiates Steps For Construction Of Art Gallery In Cuttack

Cuttack: Ten years after chief minister Naveen Patnaik laid foundation stone of an art gallery in the city, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has initiated steps for its construction though at a different place.

The CMC has floated the tender for construction of the art gallery after approving its plan, design and estimate. The art gallery, which has been designed in consultation with reputed artists, will be constructed on the first floor of Cuttack Town Hall at an estimated cost of Rs 80 lakh.

To be constructed on 5,585 sq ft area, the gallery will have facilities like central AC, 3-D and 2-D display rooms, and a paint store room.

“An estimate of Rs 80 lakh has been approved for construction of the art gallery building and its interior decoration. Steps are also being taken to hold discussions with Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and Lalit Kala Akademi, department of Culture for its operation and maintenance,” TNIE quoted Municipal Commissioner Ananya Das as saying.

In order to promote young artists and preserve old and ancient rare art, the CMC had identified land near Choudhury Bazaar Kalyan Mandap and the chief minister had laid the foundation stone on August 31, 2011. But the project site was abandoned as it was found unsuitable.
