Sambalpur: A murder accused was injured in an encounter with police in Odisha’s Sambalpur district in the early hours on Tuesday.
The criminal, identified as Md Samad, sustained a gunshot wound in the left leg during the exchange of fire near Khanduala under Dhanupalli police limits. He has been admitted to VIMSAR Burla for treatment.
According to sources, Samad and his brother, Md Wasim, allegedly stabbed Asad Khan, a youth who worked in a garage, to death near the stadium on Monday evening while the latter was returning home with his monthly stipend. Following a complaint, police launched an investigation and tracked down the brothers.
During the arrest attempt, Samad fired two rounds at the police, who responded with controlled gunfire, injuring him. Wasim escaped. Police have seized a 7.6mm pistol and Samad’s bike. The encounter site has been sealed for scientific investigation.
