New Delhi: The murder of two Indians from Telangana by a Pakistani co-worker at a bakery in Dubai has sparked outrage across India. Both Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Union minister for coal and mines G Kishan Reddy have urged the Ministry of External Affairs to take appropriate measures.
According to reports, Ashtapu Prem Sagar from the Nirmal district and Srinivas from Nizamabad were attacked at the Modern Bakery LLC by a Pakistani co-worker over a minor argument. Witnesses have said that the Pakistani attacked the Indians with a sharp weapon while shouting religious slogans. Two more have been injured and are now in hospital.
The Pakistani has been arrested but authorities in Dubai have not revealed his identity.
Prem Sagar is survived by his wife and two children. He left to work in Dubai two-and-a-half years ago to support his family. His wife was then pregnant with their second child. His brother Ashtapu Sandeep said that contacts in Dubai informed him that Prem Sagar and Srinivas were killed because they were Indians.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that the Ministry of External Affairs has assured full support in bringing back the remains of the victims. Reddy said that he has spoken to external affairs minister S Jaishankar on the matter. “The MEA will also work towards ensuring the delivery of speedy justice in the matter,” he said.
As many as 5,292 Pakistanis are presently in prison in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was also recently revealed that 68 Pakistanis are currently on death row across 10 countries. They have been charged with murder and drug trafficking.
