London: Elon Musk, who has come across as a ruthless administrator since acquiring Twitter seven weeks ago, showed his humane side after Sir Elton John quit the micro-blogging site citing ‘misinformation’ as the reason.
“I love your music. Hope you come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that you’re concerned about?” tweeted Musk, who calls himself Chief Twit in his profile.
The veteran British musician, composer and pianist announced on Friday that he was leaving Twitter.
“All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world. I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked,” Sir Elton John wrote.
Some other celebrities to have quit Twitter recently include Whoopi Goldberg, Jim Carrey, David Simon, Jamela Jamil, Gigi Hadid, Toni Braxton, and Stephen Fry.
As Twitter continues to be surrounded by controversies, Kanye West was banned from the microblogging site for his antisemitic posts, which came in for widespread criticism.
Sir Elton John’s decision to quit Twitter comes as no surprise, given his interaction with Musk a year ago.
The legendary singer revealed that after being introduced to the world’s richest person, Musk spent 40 minutes boring him about how Mars might be the perfect place to raise kids.
“I had to feign diarrhoea to get away from him!” Elton recalled.
