Jharsuguda: Dismissed policeman Gopal Das, who is the lone accused in the sensational Naba Kishore Das murder case, was produced before the court of Jharsuguda District Judge Court on Wednesday for hearing.
Gopal Das, a former Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, was brought to the Jharsuguda court from Choudwar circle jail by the Odisha Crime Branch amid tight security.
The case was transferred to the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) and the next hearing of the case has been scheduled on August 8.
On being asked by the court, Gopal said that he has not engaged any lawyer for his defense in the case. Thereafter, the court gave necessary directive for appointment of advocate Naresh Nayak as the state counsel.
During heavintg, Gopal expressed his readiness to confess to the crime before the court. However, the court advised him to have his confession before the court of the ADJ during the next date of trial, court sources said.
After being appointed the state counsel, Naresh Nayak reportedly said that he will take the next course of action after examining the documents submitted by the police before the court.
It may be recalled that Naba Das, the then Health Minister, was allegdly shot by Gopal Das while proceeding to attend an event near Gandhi Chhak at Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district on January 29, this year. Naba Das succumbed to bullet injuries at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar the same evening.
