Bhubaneswar: Amid demand by many for a CBI probe into Naba Das murder, BJP MP Pradeep Purohit on Sunday alleged that Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is putting pressure on the family members of the slain Odisha Minister in a bid to block any such investigation.
Claiming that BJD is not in favour of CBI probe into the sensational high-profile murder, Purohit alleged that two key leaders of the regional party might be in trouble if the family of Naba Das makes a formal demand for investigation by the central agency.
The BJP MP further claimed that BJD appears to be discouraging Dipali Das, daughter of the slain Minister, from formally seeking a CBI probe. Dipali has reportedly been told to refrain from pursuing such an inquiry, with assurances, he claimed.
The reported pressure from BJD appears to be aimed at stopping the names of two key persons from coming to the fore in the high-profile daylight murder case, the Bargarh MP claimed. adding that BJD wants to suppress the identity of the two who reportedly aspired to become the Chief Minister.
Claiming that those who wanted to become the Chief Minister were behind the murder of Naba Das, Purohit said the family members of the slain leader appeared to have made a compromise at that time. While Gopal Das was projected as the only accused, BJP had maintained that the whole thing was part of a bigger plot, he said..
The BJP leader further alleged that attempts were made by the BJD to suppress the matter as no effort was made to unravel the conspiracy. However, people want to know the persons who used Gopal Das to eliminate and a thorough probe is needed to unravel the entire truth, he claimed.
Stating that the BJP government in Odisha wants a detailed investigation into Naba Das murder case, Purohit said that is why the Crime Branch has issued notice to Dipali and her brother Vishal Das in connection with the case.
Senior leaders of BJD and Dipali Das were not immediately available for comment on the allegations made by the BJP leader.
