Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, Odisha Crime Branch has started a fresh investigation into the daylight murder of senior BJD leader Naba Kishore Das more than two years ago.
Sharing this information in the state Assembly on Tuesday, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the Crime Branch is actively carrying out the probe into the high-profile murder.
Stating that the family of the slain leader is yet to get justice, he claimed that the investigation in the case was not conducted in the manner it should have been, causing dissatisfaction among family members.
Following a request, the investigation in the murder case started actively now. As part of investigation, a Crime Branch team visited Naba Das’ house at Sarbahal in Jharsuguda and recorded the statements of family members, the Minister said.
The two-member Crime Branch team reportedly recorded the statements of Naba Das’ dauaghter Dipali Das, who is a former Jharsuguda MLA, and his son Bishal, in connection with the case.
Notably, Naba Das’ wife Minati Das recently wrote to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for a meeting to discuss about a CBI probe into the murder case.
It may be recalled that Naba Das was shot at by a policeman in broad daylight at Brajarajnagar on January 29, 2023, when he was the Health and Family Welfare Minister. He was later declared dead at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Goapl Das engaged for traffic control allegedly fired at the BJD leader while he was alighting from his car.
The accused was arrested on charges of murder. However, the BJP and Congress had been demanding for the CBI investigation into the sensational murder case questioning the probe process carried out by the Crime Branch.
