New Delhi: In view of the slow progress in National Academic Depository (NAD) programme, the UGC has suggested that NAD-ID should be made a compulsory field in the admission and examination forms of all the academic institutions.
The programme was launched in 2016 for online storage of academic awards such as degrees, diplomas and certificates. Students registered with the NAD website can get access to their digital certificates at any place and at any time with the click of the mouse.
In a communication issued on November 6, the UGC has asked institutes to advise the students to register on the NAD website and create their unique ID.
It has also said that students whose academic awards have been uploaded in the website, can start using the NAD services during admissions or at the time of recruitment.
The commission has fixed December 31 as the deadline for uploading of all data.
It said that nodal officers should be designated to operate a dedicated NAD cell for its effective implementation.
Since the beginning of the project, 1,106 academic institutes have signed the service legal agreement and have uploaded their data on the NAD portal.
For the uninitiated, there are 957 universities in the country and 40,000 affiliated colleges with a student strength of 3 crore.
The Centre has designated UGC as the authorised body for the implementation of the NAD project.
