New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday created history by becoming the longest-serving head of government in India, surpassing the previous record held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling.
According to reports, Modi completed 8,931 days in office as head of government, counting his uninterrupted tenure first as Chief Minister of Gujarat from October 2001 to May 2014 and then as Prime Minister since May 2014. This milestone allowed him to overtake Chamling’s record of 8,930 days as head of a government.
This achievement marks more than two decades of continuous leadership at both the state and national levels, making it a significant moment in India’s political history.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the Prime Minister, describing the milestone as a reflection of his dedication to public service and governance. In a statement, Shah highlighted Modi’s long political journey and commitment to national development.
Modi began his executive political career when he took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001. He later became India’s 14th Prime Minister in 2014 and has since led the country through three consecutive general election victories.
