New Delhi: It’s D-day today and the Narendra Modi Stadium at Ahmedabad resembles a fortress as India and Pakistan play World Cup 2023. On Friday night, touch-ups were being applied to the venue and the place was teaming with security personnel from the Gujarat Police to Rapid Action Force and bomb squad teams.
The roads leading to the stadium have been shut since early morning and only spectators/officials with proper parking stickers/permits are being allowed beyond the barricaded zone.
“Security is going to be very tight. We will have a staff of more than 20,000-25,000 at least tomorrow, can even be more. There will be no shortage of personnel here,” a senior inspector stationed near the main entrance of the stadium was quoted as saying.
Around the stadium, there will be four teams of Chetak Commandos guarding the venue from inside and each team will have an armoured and bullet proof vehicle at their disposal.
In addition, various teams of cybercrime, crime branch, economic offences wing, and special operations group will also be present at the venue.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah himself took stock of the situation and preparations when the Pakistan cricket team was practicing amid tight security at the Stadium on Friday evening.
