New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: With BJP on the cusp of scripting a electoral history in Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed it as “a resounding victory for good governance and celebrating the state’s unique culture.”
Thanking the people of the state, he said the BJP will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling the dreams of people and taking Odisha to new heights of progress. “I am very proud of all our hardworking Party Karyakartas for their efforts,” he added.
According to ECI website, BJP has already won 49 of 147 Assembly seats and is leading in 29 others. It has to reach the 74 mark to be able to form a government in Odisha. The party is also sweeping the Lok Sabha polls in Odisha, having won 6 seats and leading by substantial margin in 13 others.
The saffron party had won 23 Assembly and 8 Lok Sabha seats in 2019 elections.
The BJP show on Odia Asmita poll plank has decimated BJD’s dream of sixth consecutive term for Naveen Patnaik in Odisha, which would have made him India’s longest serving chief minister of a state beating the record of former Sikkim chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling.
The BJD has won 37 Assembly seats and is leading in 14, a fall of 62 seats since 2019 elections. The regional party is leading in only one LS seat. It had won from 12 parliamentary constituency in last polls.
Congress, on the other hand, has made some gains. It has won seven Assembly seats and is leading in as many seats. The party had won 9 MLA seats in 2019. Its lone sitting MP Saptagiri Ulaka is also leading in Koraput.
