Keonjhar: A major fire broke out at the house of a cloth merchant at Barbil town in Odisha’s district on Thursday morning, causing extensive damage to the building and goods.
Sources said no one was reported to have been injured due to the fire which erupted at the house of businessman Rohatash Agrawal. The blaze extensive damage to property.
Locals said the ground floor of the building was initially seen engulfed in flames, which soon spread to the upper floor. Four fire tenders rushed to the spot and launched an operation to bring the blaze under control.
The fire was suspected to have started in cotton and bedding materials stored on the ground floor before spreading upwards. The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
As per information, some passers-by noticed flames from the house in the early hours and alerted the family. Members of the family who were on the second floor of the building managed to swiftly move out to safety. The building was evacuated and all family members are safe.
