New Delhi: Security agencies have reportedly sounded an alert across the national capital following intelligence inputs warning of a possible terror. While the intelligence inputs are being verified and assessed, security has been stepped up in and around sensitive religious places and crowded public areas, according to PTI.
According to a report published in Hindustan Times, Central agencies and Delhi Police units were maintaining close coordination, and surveillance had been intensified through CCTV monitoring, vehicle checks and deployment of additional personnel at vulnerable points. The report also claimed that the bomb disposal squads, dog squads and quick reaction teams had also been placed on standby at strategic locations.
The suspected plot is being linked to an attempt by a terror group to avenge the February 6 blast at a place of worship in Islamabad, Pakistan, according to an India Today report. But such links were yet to be verified. Meanwhile, various media reports claim that the attack could target places of worship in the national capital, reported Hindustan Times.
Earlier, a car explosion near the historic Red Fort in Delhi on November 10 had killed 12 people. Recently, a Special NIA court at Patiala House Court on February 13 extended the period of investigation for a further 45 days to conclude the investigation in last year’s Delhi blast case.
