Bhubaneswar: Kalyani Sahoo of Bargarh district is one of the two Odisha students who made the state proud by winning a prestigious national award.
Kalyani was conferred with outstanding innovation award at the 9th National Level Exhibition and Project Competition (NLEPC) held in New Delhi. She made her way into the top 60 out of 6.53 lakh ideas received from across the country at Inspire Awards Manak (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and Knowledge) at the NLEPC by National Innovation Foundation, Department of Science and Technology, Government Of India.
Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences conferred the award on Kalyani at a ceremony held at Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan on Friday.
The School and Mass Education Department of Odisha has congratulated Kalyani for receiving the award.
A Class X student of Deoli Nodal High School in Murhapalli block of Bargarh district, Kalyani was awarded for her innovative project on building a hi-tech bed meant for patients and elderly people.
The bed can be easily operated and has the provision of an automatic basin. The bed can be operated with the help of LDR sensors in case of a power outage. This innovation is designed to help the elderly and patients in hospitals.
Keen to take the pride of Odisha to the next level in both national and international fora, she wants to innovate entities that serve the necessity of the common people.
The other Odia talent is Sreyansh Vikas Mishra, a student of SAI International School, Bhubaneswar who was also conferred with the prestigious award.
Shreyansh’s project was ‘Novel Ergonomics for Neck’, an easy and affordable solution for neck discomfort. The device will reduce strain, fatigue and injuries by improving and providing much needed support to various neck and spine muscle spasm and pain. It will be especially helpful for those who are forced to sit for long hours at work.
The 9th NLEPC concluded at Delhi on Friday, where exhibits of 556 school students from across the country were displayed.
