Nationwide Strike Cripples Banking Ops In Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Banking operations across Odisha were affected on Wednesday as around 40, 000 staff of different banks joined the nationwide two-day bank strike to press for various demands, including adequate increase in salary.
United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU)-the umbrella body of nine unions- All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), Bank Employees’ Federation of India (BEFI), Indian National Bank Employees’ Federation (INBEF), Indian National Bank Officers’ Congress (INBOC), National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) and National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO) are spearheading the strike.
A large number of government and private sector banks and ATMs remained closed, creating problems for the customers.
“We oppose the mearge offer of 2 percent hike in wage revision by the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and demand improvement in service conditions. The wage revision is due since November 1 last year,” said State Bank of India Officers’ Association general secretary Sambit Mishra.
