Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday felicitated WorldSkills competition gold medalist S Aswatha Narayan with a cash award of Rs 10 lakh.
Narayan made the State proud earlier this week by winning the first-ever gold medal for India at the 45th WorldSkills competition held in Russia.
His coach Rajat Kumar Samantray was also felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, said a government statement.
On the occasion, the CM announced a Rs 5 crore assistance to C V Raman College of Engineering for setting up the Biju Patnaik Centre of Excellence. Narayan is pursuing his B.Tech from this institute.
Chairman of the institute Dr Sanjeeb Rout and two other participants — Xenophone Das and Abinash Swain were also felicitated by the CM.
Hailing Narayan’s achievement, Naveen said: “You have truly become an icon for the millions of youngsters who are pursuing skills in various trades. This win at the global level is a reaffimation of our commitement towards providing the best opportunity for the youth of Odisha in skill development.”
