Bhubaneswar: A day after launching virtual campaign for the party candidate for byelection to Tirtol Assembly seat, BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Thursday campaigned for Balasore byelection through video-conference from here.
In his address to the voters, Naveen said he would have to loved to physically visit Balasore constituency to meet them. But it would have pushed them into threat of COVID-19 which he never wanted. He promised to visit Balasore after eradication of the coronavirus.
“Balasore reminds me of the famous writer Fakir Mohan Senapati who is one of my favourites. I love his Rebati story most,” Naveen said.
“I am also reminded of two personalities – Biju Babu and Dr Abdul Kalam. When Biju Babu was the chief minister in 1993, Prithvi missile was test-fired for the first time from Chandipur. Whenever missiles are test-fired from here, both the famous patriots are remembered,” he said.
On his government’s efforts for development of Balasore, he said Fakir Mohan University and a new medical college and hospital have been established in the district. “We have launched the development work for slums in Balasore town. The rural poor have been provided with land and pucca houses, irrigation facility, rural road, electricity, safe drinking water,” he said.
Stating that many more development works will be taken up in the district in the year ahead, Naveen said he will personally monitor those works. Special attention will be given to it.
Appealing to the voters to vote in favour of the BJD candidate, he requested them to take all possible precautions against COVID-19 while going to polling booths.
