Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday granted financial assistance to small and landless farmers under KALIA scheme.
Around 41 lakh small farmers and 85,000 landless farmers in the state will receive the financial assistance under the KALIA scheme of the government.
As per the scheme, Rs 2000 will be directly deposited in the bank account of each beneficiary farmer. It will entail an expenditure of Rs 869 crore on the state exchequer.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the farmers are pride of Odisha. “I feel happy to grant the financial assistance to the farmers on the occasion of agrarian festival ‘Nuakhai’,” he said.
Stating that the government has been supporting the farmers as a priority of its policies, Naveen said he had sanctioned Rs 800 crore to them on the occasion ‘Akshay Tritiya’ in the month of May.
Expressing his concern over the losses sustained by the farmers due to recent flood, he said the officials have been directed to submit the damage assessment report soon so that the government can sanction necessary assistance.
