Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday inaugurated Utkal Hospital and Comprehensive Cancer Centre in the city.
The 200-bed hospital, offering high-end technology-based health care services to common people, has been set up on the land provided by the state government. With more than 700 employees and 100 doctors, the hospital provides services in Oncology, Orthopaedics, CTVS Surgery, Cardiology, Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Surgery as well as high end Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology.
Speaking on the occasion, Aditya K Samal, Chairman, Utkal Hospital said, “Utkal Hospital is a purely doctors’ hospital as they have given their personal touch to build it. As first hospital of the country, we have a dedicated floor for empanelled BSKY patients.”
Pragyan Gharai, MD, Utkal Hospital said, “We had a plan to set up an American style hospital with quality care for Odia people. The hospital has all types of advanced machineries and other equipment. Utkal Hospital has been one of the largest service providers to BSKY scheme in the region. The people of Odisha can now access high-end, high-quality and technology-based medical treatment.”
The Institute of Cancer at the hospital is led by Dr Ranjan Kumar Mahapatra as the Director of Medical Services as well as HOD of the Cancer Unit.
Dr Alok Lodh, COO, Utkal Hospital; Dr Ranjan Ku Mohapatra, Director Medical Services and Director Oncology, Utkal Hospital and Board of Directors of the hospital were present.
Aditya Samal, who is an eminent cardiologist himself, has been instrumental in leading prominent doctors of the state to collaborate and invest in developing the hospital. Dr BK Das, well-known oncologist, has been instrumental in developing the Department of Oncology.
