Naveen Okays 5 Projects Worth Rs 1.46L Crore In Steel Sector
Bhubaneswar: The High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) led by chief minister Naveen Patnaik has approved five major industrial projects worth Rs 1.46 lakh crore in metal and downstream sectors.
All the five projects are related to expansion of steel plants in the state. Expansion of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited’s integrated steel plant from 5 MTPA to 15 MTPA with an investment of Rs 55,000 crore to be set up in Rengali in Sambalpur district will generate potential employment opportunities for over 10,000 persons.
Tata Steel Limited proposed expansion of crude steel production from 3 MTPA to 8 MTPA, hot rolled coil from 3 MTPA to 7 MTPA, 2.2 MTPA cold-rolled products and 2 MTPA long products with an investment of Rs 47,599 crore to be set up in Kalinga Nagar, Jajpur. It will generate employment opportunities for over 4,625 persons.
Jindal Steel and Power Limited’s proposal included expansion of 6 MTPA existing integrated steel plant from the proposed capacity of 18.6 MTPA to 25.2 MTPA with an investment of Rs 24,652 crore to be set up in Angul which will generate employment opportunities for over 1,000 persons. This investment will take JSPL’s total investment to Rs 1,00,670 crore, making it the largest single location steel plant capacity in the world.
Other proposals included expansion of Rungta Mines Limited’s integrated steel plant
from the proposed capacity of 2.85 MTPA to 7.55 MTPA by adding capacity of 4.7 MTPA by investing Rs 11,001 crore. It will be set up in Jharbandh in Dhenkanal district which will generate employment opportunities for over 6,200 persons.
Besides, the company proposed expansion of steel plant capacity from 0.53 MTPA to 3 MTPA with an investment of Rs 7,920 crore to be set up in Karakhendra of Keonjhar district. It is expected to create employment opportunities for over 5,134 persons.
