Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state Assembly Naveen Patnaik on Saturday lashed out at the Odisha government over postponement of Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) examination following question paper leak.

Voicing concern over the development, the former chief minister claimed that the state government’s incompetence has shattered the dreams of thousands of aspirants.

Raising questions over the government’s intentions, Naveen said that around 18 recruitment exams have been cancelled in the past 18 months. He urged the government to ensure transparency and regularity in conducting exams, stressing the need to safeguard the aspirations of Odisha’s youth.

“Exam after exam being cancelled, postponed, shows the BJP government’s incompetence. In 18 months of government, around 18 recruitment exams have been cancelled. What does the government want to show? Will the hopes and dreams of the state’s children continue to be crushed like this? The government should wake up and ensure that all exams are conducted regularly and with transparency,” the LoP said in a post on X.

Reacting sharply to the BJD leader’s attack, BJP MLA Ashwini Sarangi said the state government aims to conduct examinations in a free and fair manner.

Alleging that irregularities also occurred earlier, he said,  “Naveen Babu wants all exams should be conducted in the same compromised manner as they were held during his time.”

It may be noted that the ANM exam was postponed on Friday after allegations of a question paper leak surfaced, sparking widespread protests and demands for accountability.
