Bhubaneswar: The Centre on Tuesday extended the date of online registration for JEE-Advance by five more days till May 14 for Odisha students.

The decision came after Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote to Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, requesting to extend online registration by at least 10 days in view of cyclone Fani knocking out internet facility in several parts of the state.

He had pointed out that NEET examination for students in Odisha has also been postponed following a request from the state government.

The period of online registration for JEE Advance was from May 3 to May 9, 2019.

According to a PIB statement, students who are unable to get internet connectivity can approach IIT Bhubaneshwar for registration.

“As you are aware, the extremely severe cyclone Fani had hit Odisha on May 3, 2019, which disrupted mobile and data connectivity in many districts. Due to non-availability of the internet at many locations in Odisha after Fani, the brilliant Odia students have not been able to register their names online for the examination,” the CM said.

IIT Roorkee is organising the JEE Advanced this year.

“In view of the disruption caused by Fani cyclone, it is necessary to extend the registration date by at least 10 days,” he said in his letter to Jadavekar.

The Union Minister Prakash Javadekar also tweeted about extension of the last date of registration for JEE (Advanced) in Odisha.

The fresh last date for the registration is May 14. IIT Bhubaneswar will help the JEE (Advanced) aspirants in Odisha for online registration as it has fully functional internet connection, he added.
