The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) under the Department of Atomic Energy has invited applications from interested candidates to appear in the ‘Doctoral Scholarship Test’ for grant of scholarship for 2020.
The test scores will also be used for screening of candidates for admission to PhD and integrated PhD programmes in institutes such as:
National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar
Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI)
• Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali (IISER Mohali)
• Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune (IISER Pune)
• The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc)
The test is scheduled for January 25, 2020.
The application portal for registration will remain open until January 5.

According to a notification, the ‘NBHM Doctoral Scholarship 2020’ is intended to support the pursuit of research leading to the PhD degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics.
Students who clear the test will also have to appear in an interview for the grant of scholarship.
About the scholarship:
The scholarship is granted for a period of four years starting August 2020, but is renewed every year, the renewal being subject to satisfactory progress as judged by NBHM. It is extendable to the fifth year at NBHM’s discretion.
The scholarship consists of a monthly fellowship and a contingency grant, the rates of which are revised from time to time.
The current rates are as follows:
Monthly fellowship — Rs 31,000 for the first two years and Rs 35,000 for the subsequent two/three years.
Yearly contingency grant — Rs 40,000.
In addition, house rent allowance (HRA) is payable as per central government norms.
How to apply:
Applications to appear for the written test will be accepted exclusively online on the official website (https://nbhmscholarships.in/)
An application fee (along with applicable collection charges) needs to be paid online at the time of the application. For applications completed on or before 25th December, the application fee will be Rs 500. For applications completed after that date, the fee will be Rs 650.
The first centre-wise sorted list of candidates for the test will be published around December 20. A second list will be published around January 1 and the third list around January 12.
