NCERT Set For Major Review Of Course Curriculum

New Delhi: NCERT textbooks are set to undergo a major revision after almost 15 years, with the government planning to constitute a committee by October end to draft the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF).

News agency PTI quoted NCERT director Hrushikesh Senapaty as saying that the framework will be revised in accordance with the new national policy on education. The draft policy is currently being examined by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development.

“We are just waiting for the new education policy to be finalised and a committee for reviewing the NCF will be announced by month-end. The committee, however, will keep the education policy as the base of revision. Ultimately, the textbooks will be revised as per the new framework,” Senapaty told PTI.

The NCF is a document, which seeks to provide a framework within which teachers and schools can choose and plan experiences that they think children should have. It was last revised in 2005.

NCERT syllabus is not only followed by CBSE, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas but by state boards as well.

NCERT, in the meantime, is undertaking a survey in six blocks of different states to assess the quality of education in primary classes and the interventions required to improve the standard of learning outcome.

Faculties of Regional Institutes of Education under NCERT in Odisha, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya are conducting the surveys.
