Berhampur: The post-graduate students of MKCG Medical College and Hospital here launched a ceasework agitation against the delay in NEET-PG counselling.
Hundreds of first- and second-year MBBS students of the college stopped outdoor and indoor medical services, adversely affecting patientcare in the region. Emergency services at the medical college were, however, running as normal. The students said they had already informed the dean in written about the agitation a day before.
Senior resident doctors were looking after the healthcare services, they claimed.
The students were seen protesting on the campus with placards displaying slogans like ‘No more delay, enough is enough. We are exhausted. We want justice’ etc. They claimed they were facing many difficulties due to the inordinate delay in the PG counselling process.
“The protest is going on for about one month, but the government seems little concerned about our plight. With just one-third of the workforce giving services, definitely there is a lot of pressure on us,” said an agitating student.
The students also condemned the action of police on the protesting doctors in Delhi on Monday. Meanwhile, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has called for a complete withdrawal from all healthcare services across the country from 8 am on December 29 protesting against alleged ‘brute force by Delhi Police against doctors.’
Recently, hundreds of post-graduate students of SCB Medical College in Cuttack too had staged similar protest against the delay in NEET-PG counselling.
