Bhubaneswar: Odisha is among 16 states and UTs, which recorded a higher passing percentage than the national average in the national eligibility-cum-entrance test-undergraduate (NEET-UG), the results of which were declared on Wednesday night.
While Priya Somadutta Nayak, a student of SAI International School, Bhubaneswar, has emerged as the Odisha topper, securing an all India rank (AIR) of 39 and 99.99
7 percentile, 26,279 students from the state qualified in the entrance test for admission to MBBS/BDS courses at the undergraduate level, which comes to around 61 per cent.
A total of 43,080 students appeared for the test conducted on July 17.
The states that scored better than Odisha are Nagaland, where 82% of aspirants who appeared in the exam were declared qualified, followed by Delhi (75%), Chandigarh (72.6%), Rajasthan (70%), Haryana (68.6%), Punjab (67.6%) and Andhra Pradesh (61.7%), the Hindustan Times reported quoting National Testing Agency (NTA) data.
Karnataka (59%), West Bengal (58.7%), Telangana (59.2%) and Uttarakhand (57.6%) also performed above the national average of 56.27%.
A total of 9.93 lakh (9,93,069) candidates qualified in the NEET UG 2022 exam this year, and among 429160 were male candidates, 563902 female candidates and 7 transgenders. These students will compete for nearly 88,000 MBBS seats across medical colleges in the country, which means 11.2 candidates will vie for each MBBS seat.
