Mumbai: Actor Manisha Koirala has expressed concern over the devastating flash floods in Nepal, describing the situation as “heartbreaking” and urging people to come forward and support those affected.
Speaking at the NDTV World Anviksha Summit in Kathmandu, Manisha opened up about the scale and suddenness of the disaster and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families.
“My first thoughts are towards the people, the victims, the people who are suffering. Prayers for them. I think we all need to pray for them. And beyond borders, beyond this thing, on a human-to-human level, to see such a huge amount of human suffering, it’s a heartbreaking situation,” she said.
Recalling the devastation caused by the earthquake that struck Nepal years ago, Manisha said the recent floods had similarly left her shocked.
She said the images, news reports and stories emerging from the affected areas were deeply disturbing and unlike anything she had witnessed before.
The actor also appealed to people to come forward and extend whatever help they can.
“And it came all of a sudden, shockingly, like the way even the earthquake, I remember many years back, shattered. The visuals, the news, the stories, I’ve never seen. I don’t think many of us have seen this kind of flood or this kind of fury of nature. And we all need to pray, and we all need to step forward to support and help,” she said.
Manisha’s reaction carries added personal significance as she was born in Nepal. Her grandfather, Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, was also the country’s first democratically elected prime minister.
Meanwhile, several Bollywood celebrities, including Anupam Kher, Suniel Shetty, Sonu Sood and Sanjay Dutt, have also reacted to the tragedy, expressing concern and extending their support to those affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.
