Jharsuguda: In a tragic incident, a youth from Nepal died while practising at the Jharsuguda Reserve Police Ground on Sunday, ahead of the Odisha Special Armed Police (OSAP) recruitment scheduled for next week.
As per preliminary information, the aspiring candidate for the post of constable collapsed during the practice drill and later died.
The deceased youth was identified as Gobinda Kumar, a resident of Nepal. Gobinda had come to Jharsuguda town to participate in the physical fitness test as part of the police recruitment process.
Sources said Gobinda suddenly collapsed on the ground during the drill. He was immediately rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, the youth was suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest. Authorities are yet to release a detailed statement on the incident.
A thorough probe is expected to determine whether there were lapses in health checkups or training protocols.
