Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said another cold wave will hit Odisha in the next 24 hours under the influence of a new low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.
As a result, there will be a sharp fall in the night temperature from Sunday and continue till December 4, the IMD said in a bulletin.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area is very likely to form over the south-east Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during the subsequent 24 hours and move nearly westwards and reach Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts on December 2.
“The low pressure will have the least impact on Odisha, but there will be a sharp fall in the night temperature by 3-4°C at many places in Odisha in the next 24 hours from Sunday and continue till for six days till December 4,” the IMD said.
The minimum night temperature recorded in Odisha till 5.30 am on Saturday was lowest in Sonepur at 11°C, while the mercury remained at 15°C and below in Daringbadi (14), Phulbani (14.5), Koraput (14.6) and Bhawanipatna (15).
Besides, the night temperature also dipped below 20°C in the twin cities of Cuttack (17.5) and Bhubaneswar (18.9).
