Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held an important meeting of its Odisha unit in Bhubaneswar on Saturday in the presence of newly-appointed state in-charge D Purandeswari to discuss key political strategies.
The meeting of state office-bearers, held at BJP state headquarters in the city, was also attended by party’s state co-in-charge Swadesh Singh. The meeting was chaired by state BJP president Manmohan Samal.
The meeting assumed significance as it was held during the first Odisha visit of Purandeswari after she was appointed the state in-charge.
Sources said the meeting focused on the party’s organisational position in Odisha, ongoing activities and efforts to further strengthen its operations at the grassroots level.
The need for greater coordination among party functionaries also figured during the discussions as the new BJP in-charge reviewed the organisational preparedness across the state.
The meeting was significant as it was held ahead of the upcoming panchayat and urban local bodies (ULB) elections in the state. The BJP’s organisational preparedness and grassroots network are expected to remain a key focus as the party reviews its activities ahead of the polls.
A recent BJP executive committee meeting had also discussed a roadmap and preparations for the forthcoming local body elections.
Purandeswari was recently appointed as the BJP’s Odisha in-charge, replacing Vijay Pal Singh Tomar. She had earlier worked as party’s Odisha in-charge. The appointments were announced as part of the party’s organisational reshuffle in September.
During the two-day visit, Purendeswari is scheduled to hold discussions with party leaders and organisational functionaries on strengthening the party’s activities and grassroots outreach.
“My responsibility is to further strengthen and take the BJP forward in Odisha,” Purandeswari said, adding that BJP will work sincerely to ensure better coordination between the government and the party while strengthening the organisation at every level.
Asserting that party workers are ready, she said through collective efforts and the support and blessings of the people, BJP will continue to win elections in the future and move forward successfully.
