Barbil (Odisha): JSW Steel’s Odisha Mining Division organised an extensive awareness session on the New Labour Codes at its Narayanposhi Iron & Manganese Mines.
The initiative, meant to enhance employees’ understanding of the Central government’s latest labour law reforms, was led by the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Rourkela, and the Labour Enforcement Officer (Central), Rourkela.
There were more than 200 participants, including workers, staff members and associated personnel.
The session focused on the practical implications of four key labour codes — Code on Wages, Social Security Code, Industrial Relations Code and Occupational Safety, Health & Working Conditions Code.
Officials provided in-depth explanations on each code, highlighting critical aspects like standardised wage definitions, timely salary payments, mechanisms for dispute resolution, employee rights, and the importance of workplace safety and welfare.
The Regional Labour Commissioner highlighted the mutual advantages of adhering to the new codes and cautioned against non-compliance. Implementation guidelines will be released shortly, he informed.
The session also covered essential statutory requirements, such as issuance of appointment letters, identity cards and proper maintenance of employment records. There was special emphasis on promoting gender equality, empowering women in the workforce and ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations, such as the applicability of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in mining operations.
JSW Steel’s HR Head, Odisha Chitaranjan Bahinipati, Mines Manager, Narayanposhi Tapan Kumar Rath and Welfare Office Prakash Hati were present.
